Ho! For Landscapes: The Photography of R.E. Wood
from the Meriam Library Special Collections
Curator's Notes
The images that comprise this exhibition were drawn from over 130 images created by Romanzo Erastus Wood in the Meriam Library Special Collections Historical Photographs archive. The images in this exhibition are all "wet-plate" collodion negatives on glass plates. The white line around the outside of each image is the edge of the glass plate. The rough edges are the result of the pooling of the collodion mixture. (Please see the exhibition essay for more information on collodion.) All of the images were printed in 2007 on Ilford Warmtone Fiber paper and selenium toned. Since the stereoview camera has lenses that are approximately eye-width apart, there are slight variances in each image. The images also captured an amazing amount of detail, so be sure to examine them closely. The information about the images was collected from notes on the original newspaper wrapping the plates and the library staff.
